About LIShore

LIShore (pronounced "Ell Eye Shore") provides information on sea and shoreline conditions for Long Island, New York. LIShore began in 1998 as the Shinnecock Inlet Field Monitoring Project. From this initial focus on Shinnecock Inlet and Shinnecock Bay, LIShore has expanded along the South Shore of Long Island.

Real time data is available from instrument sites operated by LIShore and our collaborators.

Archived historical data from all present and past LIShore instrument deployments is freely available through LIShore via anonymous FTP.

Help LIShore Grow

If you find LIShore useful and want to help us continue to grow, here are a few suggestions:

  1. Tell us. Webmaster Tom Wilson (email: webmaster@lishore.org) loves getting email from our users. Tell us where you are from, what you like about the site, and what kinds of enhancements you would like to see. We are particularly interested in how you use information from LIShore, whether you are a research scientist or a Boy Scout troop using weather data to plan model rocket launches. Unless you request otherwise, we will add you to our recipient list for LIShore's upcoming electronic newsletter.
  2. Tell your friends. Hundreds of first-time users visit the site every week. Much of this growth is the result of friends telling friends about LIShore. Increasing traffic at the site is one important way we know we are doing something right, so keep spreading the word.
  3. Help tell the world. We have two types of cards that advertise LIShore. Postcards are 4 x 6 inches and can be tacked up on bulletin boards. Laminated cards are waterproof and can be posted outside at marinas, gas docks, etc. Both cards are full color and give the www.LIShore.org web address and a description of the website. If you are interested in posting either type of card, please send your postal address and quantity of each type of card desired to cardrequest@lishore.org) and we will be happy to mail them out to you.
